Our Origin Story

Originally, Mark just wanted to help a young friend get a job.

Everyone knows the helpless feeling of looking for a job but not having previous experience. It’s not a problem young people can solve on your own because experience only comes when someone else hires them. Hideo knew from managing coding schools that a little experience could make the difference.

Mark believed he could convince some peers to pretend to be coworkers, design a project, and help his young friend gain experience for their resume.

But he also knew he couldn’t simulate a real work environment with his peers more than once—it wasn’t scalable. Thus, he wondered if A.I. could pretend to be a cast of coworkers.

One year later, Approximate was born.

Creating a True Win-Win Scenario

Along the way we also realized how valuable Approximate is to educators and employers because we can accurately assess users as they work in real-life conditions.

Educators can have immediate access to internship experiences where students apply principles in real projects with teammates and assess performance over a large sample of work. Even better, because the simulations in inexpensive and flexible, schools can make these experiences widely available.

Employers can use Approximate to make better hiring decisions, reduce turnover, and increase employee engagement. Based on observed data we can increase the accuracy of role and culture fit and decrease the risk associated with the hiring process. In short, we can de-risk the hiring process and save companies time and money.

All along the way opening opportunities for individuals trying to progress into or through their professional career.
